Frequently used denial reasons

Below is a list of the main denial reasons with the explanations of why your addon would be/has been denied.

BELOW STANDARDS

The "Below Standards" denial reason means that you don't follow our rules. It can be due to not following our Developer Guidelines, or the Presentation Requirements, or both. You need to work a lot on the addon before sending it if you want to give it another chance.

5 SECOND SCRIPT

The denial reason "5 second script" basically means that your script is too simple. It doesn't literally mean that we believe that you have only put very little time into the script, but it means that we find the script way too simple for the site.

Curators have a general idea of what takes little to no time to make, and if we at the same time have the idea that the script does not have a chance to sell properly on the site while being way to simple, it will most likely be denied for being a "5 second script".

As you can see in the Developer Guidelines, (which you should really take a look at) this isn't a place for learning. You're the one who has to come up with something worth selling. Although we may occasionally give you proper feedback regarding your work, there is no guarantee.

If your scripts keep getting denied for being a 5 second script, maybe you should practice a bit or receive feedback from the public (possibly by putting things on the Steam Workshop) and improve your skills before trying to make money from your work.

WORKSHOP SCRIPT

When your script is denied for the reason Workshop Script or Workshop Quality Script this can mean multiple things…

1. Your script is most likely poorly coded and uses generally bad coding practices. A high percentage of addons on the Steam Workshop tend to be coded by less experienced coders with bad coding practices and low quality code, hence the term "workshop script".
2. Your script might be decently coded, but it lacks features and/or good selling points. This can also mean there is little or no way you can add any more features to the script, as the idea itself is too simple to be improved enough to reach the required standards.
3. It's a fix, or a simple utility library. These are great, and you can code them well - but we can't see them being sold. Release them on the workshop instead!

So what can I do to get my script accepted?!

Well, typically if your script was denied for this reason there isn't much you can do. If you are absolutely focused on it though, try adding more features. Clean up your code, and look at other scripts on the site. Try to see what they do!

MS PAINT BANNER

If your addon has been denied for this reason, typically your banner follows one of the following…

1. Messy and/or Cluttered
2. Text slapped on a pixelated image
3. Whipped up in five seconds

It's important that the marketplace has a professional front-end. Addons with poor banners ruin this image, and brings down the quality of the website. Spend some time on your banner, and make it look presentable. Look at the latest addons accepted for reference.

PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS (OR BAD PRODUCT PAGE)
