In short
Justice eases the burden on staff by allowing players to choose their attacker's punishment in the case of disruptive gameplay. Also using a system called Damage Grace, this enables players that are attacked by teammates to retaliate without the fear of being punished by lowered karma.
What is Damage Grace?
This monitors all damage done by players and manages karma applied based on those attacks. If Tom hits Sam, and both players are innocent, Tom is marked by this grace system as an aggressor. For the length of time declared in the config file, Tom can be shot down by any other player without fear of karma penalty. Now if Tom gets killed by Sam, and Tom is still marked as an aggressor, the Justice menu will not show for him and Sam retains his spotless karma.
What options can players choose?
All options can be changed inside the config file, along with the amount of players required to activate them. The default options are as follows:
- No Action: either Forgive (no karma penalty) or Take Karma (full karma penalty)
- Slay: at the start of the next round, immediately slays the player
- Kick: immediately kicks the player upon vote tally
- Temp-Ban: immediately bans the player for 2 hours upon vote tally
So players can vote to get a player banned?
If the player being banned has teamkilled at least 4+ people in one round, yes, but only if that option is kept enabled. Damage Grace helps prevent any abuse of this system, and each option also has a unique player requirement that increases based on the player count.
Q&A
Does this change how karma behaves?
To give voters proper time to make their selections, especially if a voter is killed right before the round ends, all karma calculations are paused until 3 seconds before the prep phase. This 3 second gap before the prep phase is also to ensure karma is calculated before any map changes occur. Persistent karma and all other karma variables still function as normal.
If a player doesn't vote, what happens?
The full karma penalty is deducted normally out of their killer's karma.
What if people vote, but no option meets the required amount?
Votes fall down based on the option number they're on. If Slay required 2 players and Kick required 3 players, while only 1 person voted Slay and 2 people voted Kick, the votes for Kick would fall down to Slay and then have enough votes to activate that option.
What are the default player requirements for votes?
No Action requires 1, Slay requires 2, Kick requires 3, and Temp Ban requires 4. All but No Action increase in 1 requirement if there are over 12 players online.
I found a bug! What do I do?
First, make sure you're running the most up-to-date version. If you're not, then update! If the bug persists, or if you were on the most recent version, submit a ticket! I can't fix something if I don't know about it. Please include as much detail as possible; if I can't recreate a bug happening, the best I can do is blindly guess at what's causing it, and that isn't fun.
