Hosting a server - need some advices
i might be returning to hetzner it seems, before they was just nullrouting me it pissed me the fuck off, Tips id have if your gonna take donations do not spend a single donation until the donations are 90 days old, chargebacks will take you negative if you do and you cant suppliment it, this will fuck you over if you pay your hosting and website and ts and stuff with the paypal account i was fine as i used a VISA card for that shit. Server side multi threading is still a buggy unstable piece of shit for garrysmod so id recommend single core performance over number of cores when looking for a dedi or vps i used software called nuestar to easily setup startup parameters and assign a core to the sourcecds.exe process (i had 8 cores and had 6 gmod servers on this and a web server with a ts3 and ftp server) as for geo-ip issues with valves master servers, this is nothing we can do the only people who i have seen do something around this is superiour servers, they have redirect servers (a server u connect to just to get sent to the american servers) that works quite well but its expensive having 8-10 different servers all over the world.
last but not least if your not famailiar with linux just download it and start learning to use it on your PC at home, this will help you alot with server costs and something linux is just flat out better for performance and functionality, just windows is more expensive but more user friendly and easy to pick up if you use windows anyways.

Hetzner will have holes. They wont even start to cover the layer 7 spectrum either, as they just seem to be using Arbor mainly. Setting up an A2S cache isn't hard anymore, so you could easily do that yourself, however the issue is the deeper layer 7 attacks that create impossible conditions. Arbor aren't bad, though - they're good for Layer 4 from what I've seen.
You would be better using OVH. OVH use Arbor, and their game rage would provide some basic A2S protection stuffs.
In short: You'd be mad to use Hetzner for Garry's Mod.
As for the server redirect shit - you're insane to assume we can't do that :P (However, we are working on a solution which would be better than that, and we have a few other ideas - however the issue isn't even bad enough for us to need this anyway. This is litterally nit-picking.)
no joke nitrous networks is pretty good. i got a 32 slot server for 9.60 a month and they have amazing support and i haven't had any troubles with them. also their control panel is pretty good.
