Changes regarding pricing

Think this is a fair deal and win for developers however in contrast, $5 is still quite a small amount especially since paypal eats a large portion of it up.
No it isn't. Every content creator says "I have a lot of taxes on my script", but keep in mind that other markets don't work that way. Let's take the example of a $5 script, you have:
- GMS fee: 10% of the script price so 5-0.5=$4.5
- Paypal fee: works on a 3.9% + $0.30 so 4.5-0.30-(0.039*5) ~= $4.
You lose 20% of the script price. There is also the commission fee (for example if you work in euro...), the disputes and the chargebacks which make content creators can lose several dollars. But else, Paypal doesn't take so much money on a $5 script...
On a $1 script, yeah you lose a lot of money so I could understand that the limit to $0.01$ was stupid. Other markets can put a fee at more than 10% as it's currently the case for GMS, so for now on your $3 script you can earn money, even if yeah it's not so much.

I'm currently facing an issue where I wanna bump my prices to $5, but I have several competitors who have yet to do so. I'm worried that because they'll then be cheaper than me, I may face issues as I've basically undercut myself. Any suggestions? Should I bump prices and hope for the best or should I just wait till they do it first?
I really think that you should wait, in my personal opinion. Your scripts are cheap (for the quality you provide, from what your customers say) and if you increase your script prices and you see that you get no sales, you'll no more be able to lower them. For the months you are involved into the market and you are selling your scripts, I don't think you need to increase them now... It costs nothing to you to wait for some days/weeks, to see what your competitors will do. You can't go back if you increase them: if you don't need to update your script, then you are not forced to increase them so let them how they are... It's again only my opinion.
Looks like this "change regarding pricing" will be, for those who have competitors, the battle of who will never update his script to let his script cheap and attract every potential buyer..
~~You did the math wrong, but somehow got the right answer. It's more like:~~
You didn't do it wrong but usually the percentage PayPal takes is 3.4% instead of 3.9%
$5 script =
But it's not 20% of each addon, it depends on the price due to the $0.3 constant. A $14.99 script would be:
Which is 15% - it decreases the higher the price of an addon is.
The fee also slightly increases due to VAT being sent in the same payment, which we would like to avoid but we currently have no way of avoiding it. We're looking into ways of doing this though as well as reducing fees overall
Additionally, an addon priced around $0.3 or below would give you literally $0
0 dollars is better than no dollars
If anything this will help push forward a new price ideal in the market, as some people were (as Marcuz put it) undervaluing their work. Those who already have their script priced higher won't notice a difference, and since everyone else has their script priced at this minimum you may even notice increased profits.
An extra $2 will not kill people, and if it does maybe they shouldn't be hosting a server.
Ye, I guess it will also push content creators to make something worth 5$ and it'll stop others from making half-assed simple scripts smaller prices, I just hope it'll encourage developers to update their products more due to increased profits (in some cases).
Thing is we don't require users to provide updates or "support" for their scripts, outside of bug/exploit fixes. All scripts are sold as is in most cases, however I would like to see it pushed forward as people put the extra effort in for extra cost.
Eh the more people that put the effort into their stuff, the better gmodstore looks as a platform, with upcoming 'rivals' that's a good thing. It's also extra motivation for lazier devs (like owain).
For anyone who's lazy on tickets, it's worth noting that fast response time is one of the elements to increase generally as a seller.
I've recently been pushing myself and the people who help me with support to try and get a ticket responded to with the hour. Understandable that during the night it's harder to do, but as a general rule of thumb. As a result, it's shown a huge growth in customer satisfaction making them want to review my script and talk about me in a positive light. These things help in building your reputation as a seller and ultimately your sales.
If you have a hard time staying on top of sales, there are people who will help/do your tickets for a small cut of your sales.
Just something a little off topic to keep in mind.
On the other side of the fence though people need to realize our developers aren't paid to provide 24/7 support, and actually have jobs/lives outside of GmodStore. People get it in their head that they get the world once they pay the script price.
The amount of reports we get over someone not replying within 24 hours (I've even seen 6 hours) is insane.
it depends on the price of your addon

No it isn't.You lose20%of the script price. (for a $5 transaction)
I was commenting on the min price of jobs and the min price of some scripts being lower than $5. Sellers should charge higher prices because of the high deduction that you've pointed out. This percentage gets lower the higher the price the product is set.

You take a lower commission rate if your total sales for a month reaches certain points (or you can be a mod)

You are right however I'm talking more in regards to paypal fees from my own experience. To address what you're referring to, the difference in fees is marginal between 5%, 10% if you are meeting the sales targets for gmodstore.
I think people have gotten confused with what I've said about the minimum job listing price and their own interpretations of what a script should cost and the revenue that you generate from sales. I don't agree that job listings for $1 are good for anyone and I support the idea of setting a minimum amount that isn't disadvantaging job takers with the huge deduction on fees when paying privately for the job via paypal.
Really disagree with the addons minimum. These are addons that developers made THEMSELVES. They should be able to choose whether or not they want to price their work really high or really low. That really should not be up to the Gmodstore staff to decide at all. Not to mention some addons that are less complex and simple to use that used to be priced around 1.99 or so now are required to be priced at - at least $5.00. A simple TTT scoreboard I was looking at last night cost $6 what the hell!?
Regardless if I was a developer and I had someone telling me I must put my work up for sale for at least x amount of dollars I would be very upset.
Bybizzyat 26th of June 2018 19:51:27
youd be upset someone wants you to make more money? do you realize how stupid that sounds?
No I don't hear how stupid that sounds because it's not up to them on how much money I'd make - it should be up to me considering the code would be mine (if I were a coder). It's all about economic freedom which apparently is being suppressed. I understand some people want others to make more money, but ultimately it should not be up to a third party to decide how much money you make (unless you're working under someone - but you're not - you're writing YOUR OWN code. Not working under Gmodstore). Pretty idiotic and takes the freedom out of you as a developer.
It's pretty stupid to think that all developers want money. I know a lot of developers who code for fun, and enjoy releasing their work for free.

Free code should not be distributed through GModStore. That's why services such as the Steam Workshop and Garrysmods.org exist. We're not removing the economic freedom, we're just setting a standard for the lowest price and therefore also the quality of addons we want on our marketplace. We don't want small HUDs/Leaderboards etc anymore as they are too easy for the average bloke to make and call it a day. They don't add to any real creativity, and if they do it's likely worth $5 or more anyway.
This version has issues and some bugs, however I have yet to find better solution on workshop. Various sweps, like this, imo, are fixed and sometimes rewritten stuff from WH, nice price for bug fixes, no? There'll be no more of such cases since price policy update. This menu have issue of not supporting ulx vote (require workaround that author doesn't want to implement), understandable for $2, but for $5+? Good luck various HUD improvements. And funny sweps. Would price increasing also mean increasing quality of scripts or are we still risking money on stuff that wouldn't work? By starting from cheap scripts a coder could gain reputation before moving to more advanced works. I'd risk to contemplate russian customers outflow due to high conversion rate to dollars in Russia (1.5 more than it should be, so new policy doubles status effect for us). From my expirience with market, instead of increasing quality, we'll see minimum price increasing, like, what now cost $1-2.5 would be $5 and current $7.5-10 will move to $10-15-20. Price increases will be halted by consumer ability so let's expect growing of currently almost non-existant market of leaks. I'd move a suggestion to make additional tab for scripts without support, like, there'll be support buttons but warnings that support isn't guaranteed, so devs could run beta-tests of their products on willing customers and after fixing&debugging move from 'early access' to 'elite zone' by increasing the price to $5+. However it will ruin the purpose of elitizing gmodstore. I guess, goodbye to various ttt stuff also, eh. Let's see what the future holds.
