Hosting a server - need some advices
ByNookyavaat 5th of September 2016 11:21:20
Good to know if I want to down all your servers at once I just need to hit that box.
I've been looking into VPS hosting, using cores that are popular in the source hosting community, but are otherwise harder to find VPS' using. We will including our pro DDoS protection on all plans, this should keep the machines online with ease :v
The question I have for anyone else though, is would you use KVM or OpenVZ for a Garry's Mod server VPS? I'd assume OpenVZ will give you the better performance, however people typically like KVM more. Any opinions?

I also think that running a dedicated server would have so many pros with running some servers and webhosting. If you know how to do this you would probably be able to setup a server pretty fast. Still the hosting plans are easier to start with but the dedicated server has so much more control and flexibility. If you want to test something, you can just make an extra server if you want.

Yes, dedi's are good, but not worth it for one server. In the OP, he only wanted hosting for ONE server, and SPECIFICALLY said no Dedi. If people actually read the OP, then there would be none if this shit.

I just told him what I would do in this situation and why I would do that. A forum is to ask advise and helping people, not to complain or fight with each other. And offcourse it doesn't always have to be serious.
Sorry that I went off topic in the end
Serenityservers.net has good and cheap webhosting. Their servers are good, however would recommend dedicated server Orange cosmos sounds cool!
Also if you make a server Dont add loading screen music Please

Serenty is probably just as shit as nitrous. Only 10 year old kids use their hosting.
I've already bought a server at Crident, and hosting my website at Hosting24. I'll put some links in here when they are both running.
Okay so after hosting my own server company for about a year i soon realized Vavle has some crazy weird way that it grabs servers to put on their Masterlist and this has been a ongoing issue for alot of players and well there is no fix. Sounds stupid i know but after trying to get this to work for users i gave in and sub-leased a server from NFO, their VDS servers work fine on the Masterlist.
Now i would recommend you use a VDS box, i know you said you don't want a dedicated but this is the best for your own needs and its at you're fault if something goes wrong, you are not hoping some idiot goes browsing you're files and accidentally deleted all you're files, this happens alot! believe me.
So in sort order a VDS from NFO Use XAMP for MySQL, and Apache webhosting Install SteamCMD for your GMOD server and the game code is 4000 do not install the Dedicated version on to the server it is very! buggy.
Hope all this umm some what English helps. Peace!

Its not crazy - its IP geo-location. Which we have solutions for - and we're currently also exploring other interesting options which could result in near-perfect IP geo-location placement. (NFO don't have a magic fix for this, their EU location being in germany shows up as it should on the geo-location service Valve use)
VDS (VPS) are however pretty neat! It's funny you mention that. I spoke to crap-head about these the other night actually as we've recently been exploring them at Crident using hardware that Garry's Mod servers run best on. While he didn't want one - I see people advising other people to get a VPS often. It raises the question how many people would actually buy a VPS over a game server when it comes to actually doing it.
I think it just comes down to the fact; most people don't want to waste time setting it up and maybe troubleshooting issues, when they could pay for a reliable game server host and have it done for them.

Very true but if you have the time to set them up they are a great tool and if you want a dedicated server use Hetzner, i was a reseller for them. they have very good hardware and at really an amazing price, i would not buy a server from their main page, instead use their server bidding store and you can rent server that have been canceled by other users.
Don't worrie their servers are wiped before they people them on the server bidding market and you can get some, well awesome saving by using this. I'm sure what ever you get will below any other server host out of the water but i could not get one of their server to show on the Masterlist at all, but i could literally see the packets of data being sent to steam servers but nothing would show on the list at all, Strange i know.
Here is the URL to their site: https://www.hetzner.de/en/
- German co-location only!

I have used Hetzner before for a long time, biggest problem is with them that they don't offer DDoS protection and will completely null your connection when you get attacked. My server did show up in the master list when I hosted it there. The other problem is that Hetzner uses some overused network connection which sometimes causes the server to be unreachable for different parts of the world. For instance, I couldn't connect to the server in any way but my friends from a different country were able to connect.
Hetzner is fun to mess around with because of the price, but I don't really advise to host any mandatory services on it.
Well after reading this thread, my conclusion is that you need a nitrous server.

Hetzner just recently added DDoS Protection, but it's pretty buggy and has a LOT of holes. It's basic configuration can handle 15-20Gbps (4M PPS) attacks however, anything more will get you nulled again.
As mentioned, their network is pretty bad tho. I only use them as a secondary off-site backup and at peak times see horrible speeds.
