Is it possible to make a different HUD for each jobs ? ^^

VenatussAuthorposted

There is a "ShouldDraw" system that works like that :).

May I suggest the ability to do "if" statements?

Like for VCMod I would like to have text that only shows up if "Cruise control" is enabled. I see there's a few options for vcmod.

VenatussAuthorposted

If you mean notifications, you can already edit them with the script! :)

paradoxPurchasedposted

could you add money text like "You gained 69420$!" please?

VenatussAuthorposted

Handi I'm improving and add features to the script with time. :D It'll probably be a feature one day, I can't say when.

HandiPurchasedposted

Venatuss will this mod have an overhead feature?

HandiPurchasedposted

someone share your creations :D I have 0 imagination :(

I suggest you make addons like this one but for an F4 or Scoreboard, this definitely has strong potential here.

Love what your doing!

Edit: I think you should also add some triangles, Hexagons/Pentagons, or even trapezoid shapes.

I think a possible middle-ground from what SugarTheCat 2nd and Owain were saying could be to add features where you can plug in custom variables to control HUD elements.

The fact is, some developers have better things to do than coding vgui elements in a coding language that makes doing so incredibly frustrating and adding any kind of tools to make it easier to get working concepts up and running is valuable time saved regardless if you're a darkrp noob server or a real game studio. Devs of all levels need tools to get their concepts up and running so they can know what about their concepts work and what don't, and I think this tool can be valuable for that if it can be done in a way that helps developers do this without making it easier for people who don't know what their doing to attempt utilizing those drafts for monetization.

Probably already said but adding TTT as a gamemode would be awesome.

Is a 3d2d function planned?

I personally don't know how to use Photoshop/GIMP myself, so personally this would probably be faster for prototyping for me.

Also if your developers spend hours on getting the positions for UI elements then most likely the case is that your developers aren't good.

It takes 1 minute to whip up a debug tool that shows your cursor coordinates on the screen.

It also boosts sales to this script if you want to share the hud you made, but the other person doesn't have the system. Perfectly valid reason.

sleeppyy valid point, but photoshop and gimp being good tools that you can use to create even better concepts quicker kinda contradicts it

sleeppyyposted

If you're a developer, you can still use this addon for prototyping what looks good/not.

Part 2:

Additionally, if there was a case that it'd be possible to export it to a Lua script, the most likely case would be that you would need to pay royalties to Venatuss if you want to sell such a script, and I do not think people would be too happy paying 60% to Venatuss, 10% to gms, and 30% to themselves, lol.

Suggestion for Venatuss:

If people want to share their creations so badly, Venatuss should provide a service where people can upload their huds, and view it and download it in-game via a toy-box like menu like we used to have in gmod 12.

Rakoposted

HUD Scripts created with this tool would be denied on submission due to most creators lacking the scripting knowledge to provide support. Those huds additionally, would not be advanced enough to sell, we already deny huds on a daily basis because of simplicity.

I do not believe that you can achieve a level of complexity needed to publish a hud on the platform with a drag and drop hud builder. It's a great tool, but the bar for HUD's on gms is set even higher.

"Real" developers should not limit themselves by usage of tools and the product is sold and marketed at people that do not have Lua knowledge. The performance hit of parsing of a json file to draw things on the screen would be negligible in comparison of some of the badly coded huds that people try to submit.

iritocsgo I've added a Vehicle HUD type and the VCMod compatibility ! :)

Handi The pre-made HUD are all done with the mod! But yeah, I'd like to see what people do with it too lol

HandiPurchasedposted

can someone share your creations just to see what this mod is capable of :D

Owainposted

I think SugarTheCat 2nd holds a really good point. To be able to export the HUD as a stand alone script would be a very nice feature. In a game where you're forced to squeeze every inch of performance, having a whole HUD creation system idling on your server isn't ideal.

VenatussAuthorposted

SugarTheCat 2nd Sorry but it'll not be implemented. Debate closed here, if you want to continue debating it will be in private.

Utopia Real developers would also want less work on their hands, no?

I know plenty of developers who would get this add-on if it supported that as it would simply make their work way easier and faster.

Let me ask you, would you rather waste hours trying to figure out the right positions in your UI, or would you rather use an accessory that allows you to do that way quicker?

It's a rhetorical question. This add-on has great potential it doesn't use.

It's great on it's own at the moment, but it can be better with this addition.

Utopiaposted edited

SugarTheCat 2nd DarkRP "devs" are the only people that would want that, real developers would just make their own HUD instead of buying this addon.

Great work btw Venatuss.
